Option disabled?

Sep 3, 2008 7:30 PM by Discussion: Site Issues

New post editor is snazzy, but the "insert link" option appears to be grayed out? [e digicons]o_O[/e]

Can't insert links in either "write new post" or when replying to any threads.

Also, as can be seen from the image, I tried inserting the "wtf" emote, but it keeps replacing it with the blank stare, no matter if I manually select it from the list or if I use o_0 <--O instead of zero though.

Edit: OH I see now when someone said "select some text" they actually meant when EDITING something. Made more sense how it was before though, simply click the "insert link" paste in the code and the link is added. Now it's kinda backwards, hmm.

When I click on someone's icon too close to the right edge of the browser, the little popup gets cut off. FF 2.0.0.14, XP Pro. It also appears to happen in IE7.

Mirror files and folders to another drive...

May 26, 2008 12:12 AM by Discussion: Personal Computing
One very important word in computing: backup. Needless to say I've been pretty slacking with backups, and I'm looking for a way to make it easier.

This is what I'd like to do: create mirrors of a few folders onto another drive, and when I add new files/subfolders to these folders, the utility will automatically copy them into the respective location on the other drive.

Example:

I download more pictures from my camera to my pictures/random, the utility will then automatically copy those pics to the same mirrored location on another drive. Or, I get a new icon set in steph/icons/newset, it would add that folder to the steph/icons/ folder on the separate drive.

I was looking at KeepSafe, but from what I could make of it, it only backs up documents that get altered and saved, and looks like it backs them up all to the same location.

Is what I'm after do-able?

Birthday boy....

I think I remember somewhere someone saying there was a way to turn off *ALL* the tooltips in SKS 5. I already have them disabled through the preferences, but I'm still getting them when I hover over anything and everything. Does anyone recall how to do it? Thanks. :)

Take that, green!

Yes....that's right. Who thought it would be sooo easy to skin.

It's as simple as replacing the images in Program Files/Stardock/Impulse/Skins/Images* (3 folders) and editing font colors in the skin.xml. So easy even *I* could do it!

TIP: When Impulse updates, it WILL overwrite all the original images that you changed. Take a tip from Snowy and rename all your modified images (I just added [s] to the end to know they're mine) and then update the changed image names in the skin.xml and save a copy somewhere, so when Impulse updates, all you need to do is replace the skin.xml. I just tested it and worked great. (Impulse updated and it was green again, gah!)

So let's see your skinned Impulse. ;)

Mine (just some basic recoloring and changed the back.jpg):

It's so purdy....

Get it while it's hot!

If you're a fan of high resolution and high quality abstract wallpapers, then you have to check out Color Theory 4 by Venom339.

It's a very large pack (240mb) containing 100 high resolution (2650x1600) wallpapers. Since the pack is so large, it is being offered as a torrent. Download the zip file from the deviation page and double-click the .torrent file if you already have a torrent application installed. If you're unfamiliar with torrents, there is an instruction file inside.

You can see a preview of the wallpapers here (warning, it's a 5mb 1280x6200 image).

For other abstract wallpapers (in more manageable doses) check out the rest of Venom's gallery.

The WC Wiki needs you!

Feb 12, 2008 2:37 AM by Discussion: WC News
If you have posted tutorials to WinCustomize or other sites (or are planning to post one), please consider posting them to the WC Wiki. The Wiki is a great resource for both new users and power users alike. The Wiki is neatly organized so it makes it easy to find documentation or tutorials to help improve your Windows experience through customization.

There is already a decent amount of documentation and information for many Stardock and non-Stardock products, as well as quite a few tutorials on how to use these products (Attention skinners! More tutorials on how to skin for these products are needed too!). However, there are many more tutorials out there that would benefit everyone if posted to the Wiki.

Do you consider yourself an expert on a certain product or a method of customization? Check to see if there is a tutorial or documentation for your area of expertise, and if not, add your own! If you've written tutorials but are unfamiliar with Wiki formatting or just don't have the time, make a post requesting a volunteer to add it.

Be sure to read the How to Add a New Page article for guidelines and tips for adding an article to the Wiki. Adding an article to the Wiki is different than posting one to the forums or articles section: the Wiki has its own set of formatting. Know a piece of software that doesn't have a page yet? See the Software Page template. Have a tutorial you want to add? Check out the other tutorials in the Tutorials Category to see how they should be formatted (or check here for a basic template). A tutorial should explain how to do something in easy-to-follow, clearly explained steps.

The WC Wiki is already a great resource, but can be even greater with the input and contribution of fellow customizers, skinners, and developers. A wiki is only as good as the involvement the community puts into it.

I notice the post editor has been updated, it's more like the pm editor now. The font is so tiny and when I try to post raw html (like a link), it doesn't get parsed. I have to click edit and then just resubmit it (without actually changing anything). Not sure what was wrong with the previous version...  :NOTSURE: Also a bit annoying when I insert an image that it actually displays the image in full, makes it difficult to actually see the text I'm trying to write, and for some reason the Firefox spell checker doesn't work in this editor (worked in the previous one).

Sigh...

I wanted to change the green in this skin (wtm) to blue, but when I went to the colorize section, the tiny preview doesn't display *any* of the colored elements in order for me to see what I'm changing and what to. Nevermind the fact that I could never figure out how to only change a single color in the skin instead of shifting all of them.

Are there any plans to update the preview in the colorize section to say, show the taskbar buttons in all their states (and colors) so we can more accurately see the effects of color shifting (and also making the single-color shift more user-friendly and intuitive)? Example: ctrl+click on the color you want to change from the preview, WB selects it, shift slider to get the color you want, voila.
